Promote Your Book Online – Different, Not Better

Every year a host of thousands of new books are published and promoted online. Most of these are about topics you already have heard of: weight loss, leadership, creativity, etc… There is no point really in re-inventing the wheel. But the most successful of these books are not teaching you something better, but presenting the idea differently. Weight loss is weight loss… it’s the new twist that the author is presenting that makes it attractive to readers.

Sometimes solving two or more problems that the reader is having can be the new twist you are looking for. A book titled: “Lose A Waist Size In 3 Days” offers not only an original idea about dieting, but solves a time management issue for the reader as well. The author has identified a need for speed in the readers psyche as well as their need to look better. A woman nearing her wedding day would find this of interest.

Books that just say “A Better Way….” are not solving an issue or presenting an idea in a new light. It’s just a bit superficial and pushy. Unique ways to present an age old concept will work fine when promoting a book. These same principles apply to editorial staff and marketing managers of major publishing houses when it comes time to shop your book with a proposal. An agent you hire to sell the book to a publisher will use the same concepts to present the book. An agent or editor worth her salt will help come up with unique ways to market as well. These can apply to online or offline promotions. They help in booking yourself on radio and TV. Media producers have heard most pitches before. They are always looking for different ways of solving age old issues that for each new generation of audience, change very little.
